Fall Math Skip Counting Puzzles

I'm working on this blogging thing. It's hard to keep up with this and that's sad because I have so much awesomeness to share.

Anywho, I created these skip counting puzzles for my lower learners to work on.  I can't wait to use them with them. Grab you a free set today.

Made It Monday 8/4/14

Let's go!  I'm so excited about linking up again with 4th Grade Frolics for this Made It Monday.  It's been awhile and I did not work all on anything school related all summer long.  I am definitely playing catch up right now!

So here goes:

My banner.....yes!  I was so excited to make this banner.  It is now hanging over my guided reading table at work and I love it.

My Beach to School TPT Product you can get here.  6 back to school literacy and math centers that review basic kindergarten skills.

I made this awesome numbers and base ten time line.  I do plan to go back through it and change the colors up.  Maybe some pink and green.

These awesome name tags I made for my students.  These are gonna be so cool and I did make them in two colors.

Well thats all!  I'm going to make a teacher schedule, reading focus board signs and who knows what else.

Welcome Back!!!

Ahhhh!!! I have moved grades every year the last 4 years. I am moving back to first grade and I've decided to change my blog world name to something that does not include a grade.  I was born and raised in the city and I'm a city girl at heart so I'm changing my name on FB, Instagram and my Blog to :

CITY GIRL TEACHING

Now to get the blog professionally done and changed.

I finished my newest product today and my first product for first grade this year.  This pack is a character and setting pack. Its our first skill.

Anchor Chart Storage!

I am so trying to get the hang of this blogging thing. I'm on the computer almost daily, so it should be easy.  NOPE!

Anywho, while searching pinterest for some new organization ideas I ran across this picture.
I have two of these already in the house. One for wrapping paper and one I use for small grocery store bags.  Then I thought!  DING! DING! DING!

I can hang one of these in my closet at work to store my anchor charts. GENIUS!!

IKEA sales them, so I guess I'll be making a trip.

Top 10 Things I Want To Do This Summer

Friday was the last day of school for students.  3 days of post planning for me and I'm officially a free women! Yay!!!

I just so happened to be posting away at things I plan to do this summer, as I browsed through Pinterest.  Then I saw that Diana from Ms. Jumps Class had a "Top 10 Things I Want To Do This Summer" link up...soooo I'm linking up.

Can you tell I'm excited. LOL

1

You may not call this turning up, but I DO!!!  I plan to lay on my couch as much as possible and just relax and sleep and do nothing!!!!

2

First on my list is to really enjoy my birthday.  Last year for 3 days before my 30th bday, I got into a really bad car accident which left me in the emergency room and on plenty of meds.  This year, I am celebrating my 31st birthday with a bang.  80's skate party!!!!

Perfect job!  Beautiful daughter!  You would think I have it all together.  Nope!  I have to find a new apartment to live in.  Not looking forward to packing and moving but its necessary and have to be done.  Still haven't found a place and need one by June 10th!! Ahhh!!!!!!!

4

And on top of that, I am looking for a new job.  Pretty confident about getting one and really need a new environment.  Sometimes change is good!  :-)

In the midst of all of that, I must do
#5.

Exercise!  Yup!  I already have a ball, weights, and a stepper.  I must lose at least 20 - 30lbs this summer.  I gained 15lbs last school year and I have nothing that fits.  I plan to exercise two times a day!  Fresh veggies, fresh fruit and protein.  I'm mentally ready!!

Once I lose some of this stomach!!! I'm so doing

#6

Four hours from Savannah Georgia and Tybee Island and I am so going to a beach this summer.  I have plans to hit one a month.  June: Savannah, GA July: Far Rockaway Beach, NY, August: Myrtle Beach, SC

#7

So many people visit this place yearly, but I was lucky enough to be born and raised here.  I am going home!!!  My daughter left for DC this past Friday as she goes every summer.  Yup, I'm kid free!  I will be joining her for a few weeks at the end of June and for 4th of July.  Home Sweet Home!

And while I'm home:
#8

I will be spending time with my beautiful baby girl and these 5 divas, my cousins (sisters)!  These ladies rock my world and I miss them dearly!  Its cousin time!

#9

And while I'm home, I'll go to my 2nd home

Harlem, NY to visit my favorite aunt, my brother and my cousins.  And the bestest friend a girl could have, Tee.  (excuse my fishnets, it was New Years Eve)

#10

I'll be returning to my new apartment with my daughter at our home in

by the grace of GOD, I'll be preparing to go to my NEW JOB!!  Prepare some stuff for my class and I plan to capture it all on my blog.  If no new job, then I'll plan to return to my current job as a 1st grade teacher.

Oh geesh, I forgot to add that somewhere in here I have to have my tonsils removed!  So not looking forward to that!

First Five for Friday since February

Awesome Alliteration! I know!

I can't believe I have not touched my blog since February. #1 goal on my list is to post at least once a week. We shall see.

I've been up to a lot, of course.  I'm a teacher.  But seriously! My world has been extra busy.  10 more days of school and I feel like my life is becoming normal again.

This week I've decided to jump back, a day late of course and link up with DoodleBug for another Five for Friday.

I have actually been doing a lot at home and school.  Let's see!

But first!  Whoop! Whoop!  Look at these scores.  First year in 3rd grade and 20 out of 24 of my babies passed the Reading CRCT!!!  #mybigbabies

Organizing!  I have a phobia of closed doors and file cabinets, so I use plastic file bins to store all my centers and stuff.  Yes, I have plenty!  I've been spending the week organizing them.

I use translucent file boxes, hanging files and organize similar to this.  The only difference is I organize by topic and not standard.  So it says Adjectives, Adverbs, etc.  I have one box for Reading (comprehension, vocabulary, monthly activities), one for Language Arts (grammar, phonics, writing), Science and Social Studies.

It's not separated by grade.  It just has it all in there which makes it easy for differentiation.  My low group this year really benefited from having my 1st grade centers right on hand.

Washing clothes.  I'm having family in town next weekend for my daughters kindergarten graduation and I'm cleaning as in (sitting on the couch and watching tv).

Pinterest. Already thinking of new ideas for my classroom next year.

Come closer!  Our little secret.  I made drinks for company this weekend.  OMG! So good.  A little pineapple juice, fresh pineapple and strawberry.  Great adult drink for a nice weekend.

Transformation to better Organization

Nine years of teaching; 4 different grades.  I have managed to accumulate a lot of different items, especially centers.  I currently have all my PreK themes and centers stored in a crate in my closet at home.  I have all my 1st and 3rd grade math centers in containers labeled by domain on a shelf in my classroom.  My literacy centers are all combined and they are stored in these bins I got from Office Depot.

I have always stored my literacy, social studies and science centers in the containers above.  I have hanging folders that are labeled and manilla folders for extra worksheets and actual center activities in freezer bags and I just drop them in.

However lately I notice that the plastic is a bit overwhelming.  My literacy container is sooo stuffed and all the plastic kind of frustrates me. Then I go grab a bag, pull it the wrong way and what happens, all the pieces for out.  So frustrating! I have been seeking a new way to store my centers, then I found this:
common core math centers based around math manipulatives

I have about 50 of these envelopes in my classroom right now that was donated to me.  They have a company name on them but once I paste the cover sheet on you won't even see it.  These will fit so much better into my hanging files and they wont require me to look through plastic.   My students can work, put everything back in and when I'm done, I can just file it away.

I search around and found that I can get a box of 100 envelopes from Amazon for $9.99.  This will allow me to slowly reorganize all my centers in a more organized fashion.

I use these file tote containers from Office Depot.  You can usually find them on sale for $8.  They come in colors too.

Five for Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's Friday!!!!!!!!!!!  While other people are happy for the weekend. I'm more excited that week is actually ending.  I have been out since Tuesday for snow days.  Thursday and Friday this week were actual break days and we are off Monday. I can't take it!!!!
So no cute Valentine's Day post for us....We missed it but I will make it up and surprise my big babies when I get back to work on Tuesday.

I am linking up this week, for the first time, with DoodleBugs for her Five for Fridays.

Well let's see...It actually did not snow as they predicted on Tuesday but they had already cancelled school.  So Tuesday was out of school for rain day.  I went to the grocery store, Macy's, and just did a little shopping.

The ice and snow did eventually come....I worked on some unfinished packs that I would need for some upcoming centers.

I look at the blogs and you all classrooms are so large and organized.  My classroom is so small and cluttered.  So I browsed Pinterest for new organization ideas.  I love this one.

I bought these last year to do the grade, file, copy thing. Nope didn't work.  But I could so eliminate some buckets and compile all our supplies.  I do have a cutter so I will go by Hobby Lobby to get some sticky letters.

I finished the classes for my 2nd masters in October 2012.  My degree has not been conferred because of these last 5 portfolio assignments I need to complete.  I am using my breaks to complete them.  I'm making myself be done by summer.

Finally, today I am taking my daughter out the house to Monkey Joe's. A fun house full of bouncers so she can release some of this energy.  They have wi-fi so I can still work, eat pizza and drink coke.  Fun times!

Prefixes Galore

We have been working heavily on prefixes in my classroom.  Whew!  It's such a relief when they finally get a set and learn how to decode and understand the meanings of the words.  Then you see their faces when you introduce a new set. LOL

I created two packs so far to assist my students with prefix understanding.  Set 1:  un, dis, mis, re      Set 2: mid, over, out, pre

Each set comes with a journal entry page, a set of prefix - definition cards for match and task card that allows students to correctly use the word in a sentence.  This pack is great for small group and literacy center learning.  I love it!
